    Search for Galesburg Fire Chief begins

    Galesburg, IL (February 5, 2010) City Manager Dane Bragg announced Friday the search for Galesburg’s next Fire Chief has begun. The position is being advertised locally, regionally and world-wide via the internet.

    Census Bureau looking for workers

    Galesburg, IL (February 8, 2010) The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting temporary, part-time jobs for the 2010 Census. These short-term jobs offer good pay, flexible hours, paid training, and reimbursement for authorized work-related expenses, such as mileage incurred while conducting census work.

    Each applicant must take a 30 minute basic skills test consisting of 28 multiple choice questions measuring knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform a variety of census jobs.  There are five parts to the test: Clerical skills; Reading skills; Number skills; Interpreting information and evaluating alternatives and Organizational skills.  The exams are given on specific days throughout December at the Galesburg Public Library. Testing dates run through the end of December and take place at the Galesburg Public Library.  Testing dates are February 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, and 26.     City’s recreation division and local businessman honored for contributions to junior golf

    Galesburg, IL (February 5, 2010)The Galesburg Landmark Commission (GLC) is currently seeking nominations for its 2010 Historic Preservation Awards Program.  The purpose of the program is to recognize individuals and businesses that have made contributions to the historical beauty of Galesburg.     Yard waste collected monthly during winter months

    Galesburg, IL (December 7, 2009) During the winter months of December, January and February, yard waste is collected monthly. The collection dates for the winter months are: December 14 - 18, January 11 - 15 and February 8 - 12. Yard waste will be collected on the residents’ regular curbside pickup day during those weeks.

    Residents should use paper yard waste bags or trash cans designated for yard waste specifically. Also, yard waste may be bundled  if less than 5' in length and 50 pounds in weight. Weekly collection of yard waste will resume on Monday, March 1, 2010. 

    For more efficient waste pickup, separate waste at the curb in three piles – trash, recyclables, and yard waste.

    Citizens are reminded that an automatic parking prohibition will take effect on all city streets when snow accumulation reaches 2 inches. Cars parked on city streets at that time will be subject to ticketing and towing. The parking prohibition will remain in effect on all city streets for a period of 12 hours or until the street has been completely plowed. (The Central Business District is not included in this parking prohibition except for the NW corner of the public square).
