Budget and Capital Process
Goals and Priorities
An electric and natural gas tax (Utility Tax) to fund capital improvements was approved at the July 6, 2015 Galesburg City Council meeting. The Utility Tax will generate an estimated $2,350,000 per year and will go into effect on January 1, 2016.
The gas tax rate will be 5% of gross receipts for most customers and $0.05 per therm for others. The electric tax rate is based on a tiered scale and is charged per kilowatt-hour (kwh) used, with the rate ranging from 0.61 cents per kwh to 0.305 cents per kwh.
A customer with a bungalow built in 1919 with 1,121 square foot on the first floor and 560 square foot on the second floor would pay approximately $99.90 per year for the utility tax.
Additional information is provided below. The Utility Tax Calculator can be utilized to find your estimated utility tax. You can find your energy usage by visiting www.ameren.com
and signing into your customer account or creating a new account.
To use the utility tax calculator, enter the information from your utility bill or Ameren account online into the yellow boxes for each corresponding month. You will want to input kilowatt hours used for electric and either gross receipts OR therms used for gas - you should not input both for gas, only the one that applies to your utility account.
