About Us

The Galesburg Fire Department was established as a career, paid department by City Ordinance in 1858. Today the department continues to serve the City of Galesburg by providing fire, emergency medical, rescue, hazardous material, risk management, and disaster response services. Our risk management program includes commercial inspections, residential rental unit inspections, public education, fire safety training, fire investigations, and juvenile firesetter intervention.

The Galesburg Fire Department employs 47 paid staff. The staff consists of 46 uniform personnel including 1 Fire Chief, 4 Battalion Chiefs, 10 Fire Captains and 31 Firefighter/EMTs. One civilian staff person provides administrative and secretarial support to the department. Firefighters respond out of 3 fire stations strategically located in the City. The Fire Department also has a training facility which also serves as a regional training center for the Fire Service Institute, University of Illinois.
