The Galesburg Fire Department was established as a career, paid department by City Ordinance in 1858. Today the department continues to serve the City of Galesburg by providing fire, emergency medical, rescue, hazardous material, risk management, and disaster response services. Our risk management program includes commercial inspections, residential rental unit inspections, public education, fire safety training, fire investigations, and juvenile firesetter intervention.
The Galesburg Fire Department (GFD) is a professional Fire Department serving the City of Galesburg from 3 stations. We are 44 sworn personnel consisting of 1 Chief Officer, 3 Shift Battalion Chiefs, 1 Battalion Chief of Prevention (Fire Marshal), 1 Rental Inspections Captain, 9 Shift Captains, 29 Firefighters and a Department Secretary. Last year GFD responded to 3,669 calls.
