The Community Development Department is managed by Roy A. Parkin, Director of Community Development. The Department has six main functional areas:
- Community Center
- Inspections
- Planning and Zoning
- Recreation
- Refuse, Yard Waste and Curbside Recycling
- Transit
The Department regulates land uses, applies standards of the Development Ordinance for new and existing projects, enforces numerous construction codes and an historic preservation ordinance . To achieve a community with a high quality of life, the Department processes various requests through the Development Review Committee, Landmark Commission, Overall Code Review Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission, Public Transportation Advisory Commission and Youth Commission.
The Community Development Department also administers a variety of incentives to encourage a vital business community. These incentives include the Downtown Fa�ade Redevelopment Grant, Enterprise Zone and Tax Increment Financing Districts.
There are also a variety of award programs utilized by the Department to recognize individuals and businesses for their contributions to the community.
The Department is staffed by a variety of professionals including Planners, a Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing/HVAC Inspector, Recreation Specialists and other administrative personnel.
