The department’s mission is to position Galesburg for economic prosperity. Centrally located and nationally connected, Companies will find Galesburg strategically located in the Midwest with ready infrastructure to serve regional and national markets by truck, rail, and air. Galesburg is located in West-Central Illinois approximately three hours from Chicago and St. Louis and within one hour from the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers. The area is served by Interstate 74 and two US Highways and has a municipal airport with jet service. The BNSF Rail Classification yard and mainlines carry 100 trains per day in and out of Galesburg in seven directions.
A diversely skilled and productive labor force. A population of 119,639 is within 35 miles of Galesburg. Approximately 19,262 workers seeking new employment opportunities are available, and mainly come from the ranks of the "underemployed". The Galesburg area workforce received "good marks" for productivity with 76 percent of the employers rating the workforce from good to excellent. Labor rates are also very favorable compared to metropolitan wages.
Ready made sites and buildings. Industrial zoned sites up to 330 acres with rail service are owned and controlled by the City. Industrial buildings from 30,000 to 980,894 sf, with cranes and many with rail service are available for lease and for sale.
