The City of Galesburg will be a leader in providing government services through the innovative use of technology allowing customers access to City services, anywhere, anytime, anyplace.
The City of Galesburg defines E-Government as a full range of computer
and communications-enabled government services and functions that are available
to customers, residents, employees, businesses and other agencies.
1. Promote the needs of customers through assessing and building the government’s technology infrastructure.
The City of Galesburg will strive to continually evaluate the needs of its customers. As those needs are identified the City will commit resources to upgrade and maintain the technology infrastructure needed to meet those needs.
2. Create new avenues of communication to strengthen and manage relationships.
The City of Galesburg intends to foster citizen input and involvement in
government through E-Government. E-Government provides an easy way for citizens
and businesses to request services, submit comments, and respond to surveys.
3. Enhance and streamline processes for conducting government business.
As new technology becomes available the City will enhance its technology infrastructure to provide easier and more efficient services to customers. E-Government improves customer service by providing common, simple services more efficiently. It also improves customer service for those customers who do not use electronic technology, since it shortens lines at the counter and enables the customer service staff to spend more time with walk-up customers. Staff will continually look for ways to work smarter using available technology.
4. Expand availability and access of City information and resources.
One of the most important services the City offers is access to information. E-Government provides another opportunity to access information. Customers will save time and travel by doing their business with the City electronically rather than making multiple trips to City Hall.
5. Provide convenient payment methods for City services.
E-Government enables the City to offer additional payment methods, which makes conducting business with the City more convenient. E-Government serves our customers when and where they want to be served by being available 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Implementation of applications will be addressed during each budget season based on available resources.
The City’s Internet and Intranet websites will be the vehicle by which staff and residents access all E-Gov applications. The creation of a Relational Database Management System will standardize and consolidate City Hall’s information databases. The relational database management system will be the foundation or the basic source of information that will give access to the content required by the desired applications. This initiative has resources allocated to it and is currently being developed.
Along with serving the needs of the public, this plan is also intended
to serve the needs and enhance the communication of information to internal
customers as well. Internal customers are defined as all City of Galesburg
elected officials, staff and employees. This includes employee information,
access to information on residents and contractors and the ability to keep
consistent and shareable information for employees who require it for their
day to day work.
