    Galesburg Snow Removal Procedures

    LIGHT FROST ON BRIDGES ONLY

All bridges are treated with either granular salt or liquid salt solution anytime the street temperature will be below freezing.

HEAVY FROST, FREEZING RAIN, SLEET OR DRIZZLE OR SNOW ACCUMULATIONS LESS THAN 2"

All bridges and major streets are salted when streets begin to become icy from the freezing precipitation. Intersections of residential streets with major streets are also salted. Residential streets are not salted and no streets are plowed at this time.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 2" OR MORE

A Snow Emergency is declared, and all State routes and major streets are plowed and salted. Intersections of residential streets with major streets are also salted. After State routes and major streets have been plowed, residential streets will be cleared. Residential streets are not salted.

    PARKING DURING SNOW EMERGENCIES

Citizens are reminded that an automatic parking prohibition will take effect on ALL City streets when snow accumulation reaches 2 inches. Cars parked on City Streets at that time will be subject to ticketing and towing. The Parking Prohibition will remain in effect on ALL city streets for a period of 12 hours or until the street has been completely plowed. (The Central Business District is not included in this parking prohibition except for the NW corner of the public square).

STAY TUNED TO LOCAL RADIO STATIONS AND CHANNEL 7 FOR UPDATES

In the event of a Snow Emergency, stay tuned to local radio stations and/or Cable TV Channel 7 for snow removal announcements. When the Snow Emergency is terminated, an announcement will also be made on local radio and the Snow Emergency will no longer be displayed on the Cable TV Channel 7.

    NOTICE: COMMERCIAL SNOW REMOVAL

Private residential and/or business owners or their agents who remove accumulations of ice and/or snow from parking lots, sales lots, driveway, sidewalks, or other locations whether done by them personally or by a hired snow removal contractor, SHALL NOT deposit the removed snow/ice upon a city street or in an alley; nor can they transfer accumulations of ice/snow from private property across streets and/or place upon medians between streets and/or highways. Hauled snow/ice SHALL NOT be transported by truck or other means and dumped on City property without specific authority granted by the City Public Works Department.
