Competitive Swim Clinic Goal: Prepare for High School Swimming. Swimmers, 7th grade and up based on the 2012-13 school year, wanting to take their swimming to the next level in preparation for High School should consider participating in this program.

Swimming and water safety skills will be taught to swimmers of all ages and abilities in a positive aquatic environment. The program will begin developing positive attitudes, swimming skills and safe practices in, on and around the water.

A public hearing has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 and again on Thursday, May 16, 2013, in the Council Chambers at city hall. The public is being asked to attend and speak out about their experiences with dogs, as well as those who wish to speak on behalf of dogs in the community.

Touch it, climb on it, hop in it...but don’t drive it. Experience some BIG vehicles with wheels. This event is from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the Lake Storey Pavilion parking lot. It will provide young children with the opportunity to see, touch, hear and explore a variety of fascinating vehicles that they only dream about being with up close. This is a great field trip idea for Day Care centers, Preschool, Kindergartens, Home School, and families.

Children, ages 3-6, will have fun creating and eating healthy snack recipes. This program will teach readiness skills, while using small muscle coordination, to prepare tasty treats. Participants will meet from 10-11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Recreation Nature Center to prepare creative recipes. Please inform staff prior to the program of any food allergies. Pre-registration is required by Friday, May 3, 2013.

Join our Naturalist, Jennifer Bunde, for a yummy and interesting experience, creating and eating edible poop. Learn all about animal poop, or scat, and why it is so interesting from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Galesburg Nature Center. Youth in 1st-5th grades will try their hand at making their own scat to eat and take home.

The American Red Cross released a newly revised Lifeguard Training program last year to reflect the most current research for preventing, preparing and responding to land and aquatic emergencies. Candidates will be trained to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations, both in and out of the water. Topics include: water rescue skills, surveillance and recognition, first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies, CPR, AED and more.

Join the aquatic staff for a special day with mom from 1:00-4:00 p.m. This day is dedicated to moms in honor of all they do. Fee: Moms/Grandmothers swim free when accompanied by their child.

This “training program” is designed to give youth, 8-15 years of age, practical instruction starting on the tee and ending on the green. It is designed for youth that have been introduced to golf, but are not quite ready for on-course play on their own. The program will meet at Bunker Links Golf Course twice a week from 1:00-2:30 p.m.

This instructional clinic will help participants, 8-15 years of age, develop the basics of golf while introducing them to the rules, etiquette and history of the sport. All supplies and equipment will be provided during the program. This program will meet at Bunker Links Golf Course from 1:00-4:00 p.m. twice a week.

Sometimes cooking a meal seems like a lot of work when it is being served to only one or two persons. This workshop will focus on simplifying meal preparation for single or couple households. Participants will learn to shop, prepare and modify recipes to suit the number of mouths being fed.

Lifeguard Review Course American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Review provides an opportunity to review the content to optimize successful complete.

Co-sponsored by FM 95, City of Galesburg Parks Department, City of Galesburg Recreation Division and the Fishing Derby Committe. Come out to Lincoln Park from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (Registration starts at Noon.) to try your luck on catching a fish for children, 15 years and younger.
