In August of 2008 area building inspectors, builders, community officials, and other interested individuals watched this live fire demonstration showing the difference in fire behavior in a typical bedroom with and without residential sprinklers. This is a dramatic demonstration of the effectiveness of residential sprinklers. All of the latest major residential building codes require sprinklers in new construction. Currently, Galesburg is on the 2006 International Residential Code which makes sprinklers optional.
The primary purpose of the Fire Department is to deliver the services necessary to minimize the loss of life and property threatened by all hazards including fire, medical and rescue emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and disaster situations in the community.
The Galesburg Fire Department will utilize a professional business like approach in protecting the citizens, property and environment. We will deliver the highest level of emergency services rapidly and in a humanitarian way, while operating within the policy guidelines set by City Council.
