Galesburg’s Global Strategies Director, Gary Camarano, is continuing efforts to open the Galesburg/West Central Illinois Region up to more international trading opportunities. Mr. Camarano recently met with the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office/Chicago and the Taiwan Trade Center/Chicago, and is planning to host a "Doing Business with Taiwan" forum in Galesburg on Thursday, May 30, 2013. The forum will give area businesses insight into the Taiwan market and an overview of the opportunities available for them.

According to Mr. Camarano, "Taiwan is a strong ally of the United States and an economic powerhouse in the Asian Pacific Rim.  Not only is Taiwan an important market for the U.S., but it is also a ‘gateway nation’ to the rest of Asia. They have the contacts and knowledge that can assist our companies reach markets in the People’s Republic of China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines and other key markets quickly and efficiently. They understand the practices of the east and west and can be great business partners."

Cesar Suarez, Galesburg’s Economic Development Director said, "We are going to continue to bring international sales and investment opportunities to the region when they make sense and are a good match. Being able to compete globally is one of the engines that will help move our local economy in a positive direction. We are going to continue to be very active on this front."

The "Doing Business in Taiwan" forum will discuss the Taiwan market, and open a dialogue between Taiwanese and Galesburg/West Central Illinois businesses. Camarano added, "They really want to listen to our businesses and uncover areas of collaboration and possible joint ventures and investments. They are very open to all possibilities and bring a lot to the table.  I am excited about this opportunity for the region." Of particular interest to the Taiwanese are agricultural products, advanced agriculture products and services, processed food, and mobile machinery and implements. There are also opportunities for joint ventures and investment.

Final arrangements for the May 30th forum are currently being made and will be announced shortly. Businesses interested in attending the forum should contact Gary Camarano at 309/371-0474.
