Information for Candidates
The Mayor and Aldermen in Wards 2, 4 and 6 are elected every four (4) years. The next election will be held in 2013 for these offices.
Packets may be picked up at the Board of Election Commissioners Office begining 90 days preceding the last day to file nomination papers.
Party petitions are filed at the Board of Election Commissioners, 55 W. Tompkins St., Galesburg, IL, not more than 99 days nor less than 92 days prior to the date of the consolidated primary.
Petitions are filed not more than 113 days nor less than 106 days prior to the consolidated election.
Qualifications
No person shall be eligible to the office of mayor or alderman:
- Unless he is a qualified elector of the municipality and has resided therein at least one year next preceding his election or appointment; or
- Unless, in the case of alderman, he resides within the ward for which he is elected; or
- If he is in arrears in the payment of any tax or other indebtedness due to the city; or
- If he has been convicted in Illinois state courts or in courts of the United States of malfeasance in office, bribery, or other infamous crime.
The Board of Election Commissioners is responsible for elections within the City of Galesburg.
