All job announcements are posted at our web site after an internal process has been completed. All applicants must complete a City application; please note that RESUMES ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN LIEU OF A COMPLETED APPLICATION. A separate application must be made for each posted job vacancy.

UNSOLICITED APPLICATIONS FOR POSITIONS THAT ARE NOT ADVERTISED WILL RECEIVE NO CONSIDERATION AND WILL BE DISCARDED.

Interviews, Background Checks and Pre-employment Examinations
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications of a position may be selected for an interview. During the interview process, certain individuals may be asked to sign a letter authorizing the Galesburg Police Department to conduct a background check. The background check is completed prior to making a job offer to an individual. All offers of employment are contingent upon the applicant's successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination that includes a drug test, and verification of prior employment and education.
All personnel hired by the City are required to obtain residency within 20 miles of City Hall no later than 13 months after their first day of employment. No exceptions will be made to this requirement. It is recommended that you review the Residency Requirement map located on this page.
Regular full-time City employees are either represented by one of three unions or are covered under a personnel policy for exempt employees. Current contracts are listed in the document center. The salary ordinance is updated as necessary and approved by City Council.
