Jacob Betz, a past Tee Level Clinic participant, and 2013 Green Level Training participant, was selected to attend "Other Side of the Green" Illinois Golf Event in May.

Jacob Betz recently participated in a "once in a lifetime" golf experience when he was nominated, and then selected, as one of twelve youth in Illinois to attend the "Other Side of the Green" golf event, sponsored by the Kids Golf Foundation of Illinois.

In order to have a chance at participating in the event, boys are nominated by their Site Coordinator, which is the key person who plans, organizes, and runs the local Hook A Kid On Golf program for the community. Being selected to participate in this event is a special honor for boys involved in the Foundation’s programs. Only twelve boys were selected from around the state of Illinois. Jacob was nominated by Site Coordinators, Elizabeth Varner, and Greg Merrill.

Young men, between the ages of 11-17, are paired with a business professional who shares the same interests and career path to play a 9-hole scramble at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove.  Jacob was paired with Mr. Pat Noto, who owns his own CPA business.  The groups participated in activity stations which included networking, stretching, putting, chipping and full swing.  They participated in golf skills as well as life skills that included topics such as communication, concentration and balance, which could be applied on and off the golf course.  Two special guests were in attendance to add to the experience with their own words of wisdom.  Mr. Robbie Gould, kicker for the Chicago Bear, and Mr. Scottie Pippen, Chicago Bears legend played a couple of holes with each group, while adding to the excitement of the program for participants, business leaders and spectators.

Jacob Betz said "I am so thankful to have been given this opportunity.  I definitely will not ever forget it.  I would tell kids who are interested in golf to give Hook a Kid on Golf a try.  Golf is fun, teaches you patience and determination, challenges you and allows you to meet new people and make new friends."

I n an email to Elizabeth Varner, Galesburg Recreation Supervisor, Betz said, "The Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course was beautiful and challenging.  I liked playing golf with my mentor, Pat Noto, CPA, Robbie Gould, kicker for the Chicago Bears and Scottie Pippen, NBA superstar.  I learned that no matter what, you should always have fun and never give up.  My mentor also helped me with my grip and to use my shoulders when I putt.  My mentor was Pat Noto, CPA who owns his own CPA business and also is a teacher's aid at a local school.  He was a great guy who was easy to talk to and I really enjoyed spending time with him.  I am so thankful to have been given this opportunity.  I definitly will not ever forget it.  I would tell kids who are interested in golf to give Hook a Kid on Golf a try.  Golf is fun, teaches you patience and determination, challenges you and allows you to meet new people and make new friends.  Thanks again Elizabeth for nominating me. "
