The Galesburg Area Crime Stoppers presented Officer Torry Carnes with the 2011 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award.
Nominees for the award are selected from each of four shifts at the Galesburg Police Department. Shift commanders chose one officer from their shift who best exemplifies an officer of the law. The name, highlights from the past year in law enforcement, and a short bio is then presented to the board for consideration.
Carnes has been with the Galesburg Police Department since 1990. He has taken an initiative in drug investigations and has been involved with the seizure of approximately 30 pounds of cannabis in 2011.
