The American Red Cross released a newly revised Lifeguard Training program this past spring to reflect the most current research for preventing, preparing and responding to land and aquatic emergencies. Candidates will be trained to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations, both in and out of the water.

McDonald’s Youth Summer Tennis

Registration is being taken at the Lakeside Recreation Facility for the 2013 Summer McDonald’s Youth Tennis program. Youth tennis classes will meet at the Galesburg High School Tennis Courts. Classes are 45 minutes or 1 hour based on the lesson.

Lifeguarding Spring Session: Course II

Little explorers, 4-6 years of age, will experience the excitement of nature from 9:00-11:00 a.m. They will participate in an outdoor lab area that is great for collecting, observing, attaching, identifying, drawing and labeling specimens, as well as other creative opportunities. A special emphasis will be on caring for our world, the importance of friendship and safety in the out of doors.

Making Messes

Get ready to get messy. Youth, ages 6-8, will express themselves with messy finger paint creation. Explore using shaving cream, pudding and traditional finger paint. Participants should wear old clothes or bring an apron because we are making a mess. Youth will then enjoy a supervised swim in the zero depth pool, before it is open to the public. This program will meet at the Lakeside Splashzone Activity Room from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Must pre-register by Friday, June 7, 2013.

Animal Make Up Workshop (Saturday)

Youth will have fun getting an inside look at creating an animal make up design for the stage. Usually stage makeup workshops are geared toward older kids and teens. All participants will have the opportunity to assist in creating an animal face while having fun transforming into another creation.
