Con. Bobby Schilling visits with Bob Blackburn on a recent visit.
Blackburn Sampling, Inc. has been awarded a Business Innovation Grant to market an innovative new product at the Society for Petroleum Engineers Conference and Exhibition this fall.  Costs associated with attending the tradeshow total $22,320.  The grant was awarded in the amount of $10,000, with the remaining cost being covered by the company.
"This grant will allow us to attend an industry trade show in San Antonio, Texas this October.  In addition to promoting our existing product line, we will also be showcasing a new variation of our all anti-static polypropylene samplers. We are excited to be unveiling this product and anticipate strong demand given the additional safety it will provide to end-users testing flammable liquids," said Bob Blackburn, President and CEO of Blackburn Sampling, Inc.
In addition to testing petroleum products, Blackburn’s patented line of Composite Liquid Waste Samplers (COLIWASAs) has been referenced by the Environmental Protection Agency and is used by companies such as Clean Harbors to test streams and waterways.
Blackburn commented as to the support his company has received in recent months. "Since moving to the Sustainable Business Center last year Blackburn Sampling has grown in both sales and operational capacity. We have benefited greatly from the technical assistance provided by the city of Galesburg's economic development department and the EBI Network.  We are also grateful to Western Illinois University, specifically for the market research performed by Dr. Adee Athiyaman and his talented team of graduate interns."
"It was the opinion of the grant review committee that Blackburn Sampling had made significant advancements in recent years and developed within itself an innovative corporate culture. We applaud this company’s efforts and look forward to seeing innovative practices spread further throughout our business community," said Todd Thompson, City Manager.
In 2011 the company was named in the Top 75 of the Chicago Innovation Awards. That same year Blackburn received a certificate in Serial Innovation from the University of Illinois Business Innovation Services program, a course provided in collaboration with the EBI Network.
Innovation remains at the core of the company’s long-term strategy. "We have realized that we must innovate in order to stay relevant in the marketplace.  There is no standing still -- a company is either growing or dying. Blackburn Sampling is growing and our future in Galesburg looks very promising," said Blackburn.
