September 7, 2012 02:34 PM
A luncheon has been announced to inform small businesses in west central Illinois of upcoming changes in the health care law or the Affordable Care Act.  To be held Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm CST, the event will take place at the Best Western Prairie Inn's Grand Ballroom, 300 S. Soangetaha Rd., Galesburg, IL.
Mary Timmel, manager of the Small Business Majority's Missouri Outreach Center, will be speaking at the luncheon. "This event will outline what the healthcare law means for small businesses and how they can benefit from its provisions.   The event will cover numerous issues pertinent to small businesses now and in the future, including: (1) tax credits, (2) high-risk pools, (3) insurance reforms, (4) the individual responsibility requirement and accompanying subsidies, (5) shared responsibility, and (6) the establishment and governance of state healthcare exchanges.  All small business owners are encouraged to attend this event to learn how to benefit from components of the law and understand how it affects their business, their employees and themselves," said Timmel.
Jim Duffett, Executive Director for CBHC will also present.  "Policy makers need to hear from small businesses what they need to support so that health reform will work for them.  Attending this event will provide them with the information and resources they need to help them better ensure that health insurance will be more available and affordable for themselves and their employees.  The voice of small businesses and consumers is now more important than ever," stated Duffett.
The luncheon is hosted by the City of Galesburg, EBI Network, Small Business Majority, and the Campaign for Better Healthcare (CBHC).  "The event presents a great opportunity for our business community to learn how new healthcare laws - which are beginning to be implemented - will affect them and what they can do to shape the legislative process," said Mayor Garza, of the city of Galesburg, "This is truly about being proactive and planning for changes already on the horizon".
Early registration prior to September 17 is $10 per person and covers the cost of food. Registration after this date is $15. To register, visit or call 309-371-0473.
