Area manufacturers and metal fabricators will have a chance to uncover business opportunities in the rail road sector when supply chain and procurement representatives from  Nippon Sharyo and Miner Enterprises come to Galesburg to participate in a "Supply Chain Matchmaking Workshop" hosted by the city of Galesburg’s Economic Development Department. The September 11, 2013 workshop will allow area businesses to learn about the supply chain needs and requirements of the two featured manufacturers. Previously, the city hosted a well-attended supply chain workshop featuring National Railway Equipment (NRE).

Nippon Sharyo USA is a major supplier of rolling stock. They have recently begun filling a large order of railcars for northwest Illinois’ METRA. Miner Enterprises is a manufacturer of railcar components and has been in business since 1894. Both are based in Illinois, and are key members of the State’s famous Rail Road industry Cluster.

The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Carl Sandburg College’s Business Technology Center and will run from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Bryan Ahee, Vice President Information Technology for Fusion Tech, participated in the NRE Workshop, and said, "Supply chain workshops like these are very useful to us. Anytime you can get together with businesses looking for supply chain partners, share information, network and make significant contacts, it’s a good thing. We’re not expecting the city to sell for us, but creating an environment where we can begin the sales process is very helpful."

Gary Camarano, Global Strategies Director for the city, explained, "The supply chain workshops are a great way for businesses to learn about opportunities, make contacts and begin the selling process. They also have the opportunity to meet with other area businesses and discuss opportunities for collaboration. An example of this is the 3D Printer Project. This is an opportunity for businesses to come together and bring in a resource that saves money and increases efficiency. We want to create the environment where things can happen among the participants and help when necessary. But the real driving forces are the businesses – they make it happen."

Businesses looking to participate in the Supply Chain Matchmaking Workshop, or would like more information on this and other programs designed to help businesses grow and expand, should contact Gary Camarano at 309/371-0474 . Sitting is limited for the workshop and reservations are required.
