Captain John Seitz named Galesburg Firefighter of the Year

Captain John Seitz with the Galesburg Fire Department has been named the department's Firefighter of the Year. The annual GFD Firefighter of the Year Award recognizes the significant contributions, achievements, character and long-term dedication of a Firefighter or Fire Captain. Selection is based on the candidate's skill and ability as a firefighter, performance of duties in the station, motivation, teamwork, leadership, creativity, professionalism, and customer service. The example set by the nominee off-duty, such as volunteering and community service, may also be considered. Nominees are chosen by the firefighting shifts and final selection is made by consensus of the Management Staff, Union President, and Staff Captain.
"Captain Seitz's actions as both a firefighter and a fire captain speak louder than any words that could possibly be written here," writes Battalion Chief, Brad Stevenson. "He has never been satisfied with just doing the job; he always has to take it to the next level. He worked hard for the department and he worked hard at his own self-development."
Captain Seitz is a Certified Fire Investigator by the International Association of Arson Investigators and by the state Fire Marshal. Captain Seitz has been a part of FireTech out of East Peoria, and has been with the Galesburg Fire Department for nearly 14 years.
