Chillicothe Subdivision Quiet Zone Update

May 6, 2014 09:21 AM

The City has completed all improvements required in order to establish the Quiet Zone on the Chillicothe Subdivision and has received approval from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) of the Quiet Zone application.

In order to implement the Quiet Zone, BNSF also has to complete their signal circuitry upgrades as well. Due to the extremely cold weather over the winter they are running behind schedule and do not expect to be completed until July 1, 2014.  These improvements are required to be completed and operational prior to implementation of the Quiet Zone.

BNSF will not allow the Quiet Zone to be operational until the Contractor for the Seminary/Kellogg Street overpass has discontinued the use of the temporary construction crossings on Kellogg Street, North Street, and Seminary Street.  The Contractor is utilizing these temporary crossings to bring material into the job as well as move construction equipment back and forth.  The Contractor anticipates needing to utilize these crossings until August.  Once the temporary crossings are closed, the City will issue the Notice of Establishment.  The Quiet Zone will be in effect 21 days later.  It is anticipated that the Quiet Zone will be in force the last week of August 2014.
