City and GREDA to collaborate on economic development initiatives

February 20, 2012 10:05 AM
City of Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza and Mark Blackburn, Chairman of the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association (GREDA) have continued to meet to discuss community and economic development alignment points and possible collaborative initiatives.
"The outcome of these regular sessions that Mark and I have maintained have been productive as some opportunities to partner have already been realized with more to be explored," said Garza. Among these opportunities will be an upcoming announcement regarding the city and GREDA collaborating on a Quality of Labor Survey due to begin next month.
"We hope to develop a mutual platform that enhances business development strategies that are the best in class to secure a greater level of investment in our community that leads to both job retention and creation," stated Garza. Continuing Garza explained, "The city is going to take a very active role in pursuing job creating opportunities, we're not going to wait for them to come to us. We are going to seek them out, and be very assertive in developing them. It's about job retention and creation, and we will be results driven."
GREDA Chairman Mark Blackburn added, "We fully understand the Mayor's passion and drive for economic development in Galesburg and the region, and GREDA supports and shares these views. We look forward to developing a close and coordinated economic development effort with the city."
Both the city and GREDA expect to be working together on several projects, with details to be announced in the near future. For further information please contact Gary Camarano, City of Galesburg, (309)371-0474.
