Galesburg officials join Galesburg CILA Homes Partnership in celebrating the ground breaking of the first of many group homes to be constructed in Galesburg and the surrounding area. On Thursday, April 5, ground will be broken at 285 S. Farnham Street at 11:30 a.m. for an eight bed home for the developmentally disabled.
The city of Galesburg offered 52 properties for bid last winter and Galesburg CILA Homes Partnership was successful in acquiring eight of them for construction of seven housing units eliminating dollars spent by the city for maintenance of the lots. The winning bid by Galesburg CILA Homes Partnership for these properties demonstrates a successful private/public partnership between Galesburg CILA Homes Partnership and the city of Galesburg.
"We greatly appreciate the significant investment in the residents of St. Mary’s Square Living Center, its employees and our overall community. We extend our additional gratitude to Don Fike and Galesburg CILA Homes Partnership for his leadership and his unwavering commitment to the Galesburg area," said Sal Garza, Mayor. "We hope the future provides additional opportunity to work with Don."
The $8.12 million project brings construction jobs and additional jobs that will be needed to staff the new facilities. The clients who will live in the facilities will be provided with a more home-like atmosphere that will add to their quality of life.
