The City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation Master Plan and Comprehensive Plan were both recently adopted after an extensive planning process, which included community engagement and research in order to develop plans that are an accurate reflection of the community. Both of the finalized plans are available on the front page of the City’s website.

The Parks and Recreation Master Plan was adopted at the February 4, 2019 City Council meeting and provides a comprehensive current park system inventory, as well as identifies the top issues, actions, and assets identified from community feedback. The document lays out goals and plans for parks and open spaces, recreation and facilities, as well as trails.

"The Parks and Recreation Master Plan is a useful document for community members to look though, not only to learn about future goals, but also to see all that is currently offered in the parks system," said Tony Oligney-Estill, Director of Parks and Recreation. "I think many residents will be surprised at some of the assets our community has to offer, such as hiking and biking trails, and water play features at parks."

The Comprehensive Plan is a detailed policy document that guides land use, development, capital improvements, community investment, and growth for 15 to 20 years. The plan was approved at the January 7, 2019 City Council meeting and provides the framework for regulatory tools, such as zoning, subdivision regulations, and annexations.

"The Comprehensive Plan provides in-depth analysis of many topics critical to decision making, such as housing stock, land use, population, and employment trends," said Steve Gugliotta, Planning Manager. "The completion of the plan enables informed decision making for intentional community planning."

Both plans are available on the front page of the City of Galesburg website, www.ci.galesburg.il.us, and all interested parties are encouraged to review the plans to learn more about the current state of the community, as well as future plans.
