City of Galesburg to Provide Residents with Lead Service Lines Free Water Testing & Filters

May 2, 2016 03:02 PM
The City of Galesburg today announced two programs for residents who own lead service lines that are connected to the Galesburg water supply. The first program provides free water testing for residents with a lead water service line to their home. Interested residents should call the Water Division office at 309/345-3649 and schedule an appointment for Water Division technicians to inspect their home’s service line and deliver the free test kit. Water Division technicians will  provide instructions on how to collect the home’s water sample in accordance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) standards. Once the resident has collected the sample, they need to drop it off at the Water Division office located at 920 West Main Street, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. See attached map.
The City of Galesburg is also providing free water filters to those residents that have a lead service line and have had a lead test from an IEPA approved lab that shows a lead level in excess of 15 ppb. Residents that meet this criteria can go to the Water Division office located at 920 West Main Street and pick up the filter. Residents will need to provide a copy of the test result from the lab in order to obtain the filter.
Residents who are unsure of the type of water service line they own should contact the Water Division office at 309/345-3649 for assistance, or visit
