Mulch pile located at oversized brush drop-off site
Galesburg residents have a free resource available to them as they prepare their flower and vegetable gardens this spring. For the first time, in addition to mulch, compost will be available to Galesburg residents free of charge at the oversized brush drop-off site, located at 636 Pickard Road, just west of Farm King on West Main Street. Mulch and compost are available on a self-serve basis. Residents should bring their own shovel to load the material.
The compost originates from the Knox County Landfill from yard waste that has been brought to the landfill. The mulch that is available is chipped by City staff using brush and limbs from throughout the community. The drop-off site is available for Galesburg residents to dispose of brush and limbs which exceed the allowable limit for curb-side pick up. No leaves or grass clippings are accepted at the drop-off site.
Operating hours at the oversized brush drop-off are Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through November 15, 2014. For questions about the oversized brush drop-off site or program, contact the Public Works Department at 309/345-3623.
