Dispose of fall yard waste at curb or at drop off facility

October 16, 2012 04:14 PM
During the winter months the accumulation of yard waste slows down and as such programs for disposing of leaves, grass, brush and limbs are reduced in Galesburg.
Residents may place yard waste at the curb weekly through the month of November. During the months of December through February, yard waste is collected monthly. December's monthly yard waste will be collected on a residents regular solid waste pick up day during the week of December 10-14. January and February dates will be determined. Yard waste placed at the curb for disposal should be in a refuse container, paper yard waste bag, or bundled less than 5 feet in length, 5 inches in diameter and weighing less than 50 lbs.
The city's oversized brush and limb drop off area is open Fridays and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through November 17, 2012. The oversized brush and limb program provides a method for disposing of woody material that is too big for curbside pick up. Mulch is available at the drop off facility during operating hours.
The 2013 Recycling and Refuse Guide outlining these programs and more is being developed and will be mailed to Galesburg residents and be available on the city's website by year end.
