Downtown Galesburg. Plans, Projects and Priorities for Public Spaces

July 12, 2016 03:03 PM
The City of Galesburg and the Galesburg Downtown Council are moving into the next phase of this project and seeking community input on potential downtown public improvements.
This project focuses on a geographically defined downtown area and will look at the streets, sidewalks, public parks, plazas and public parking areas, lighting, wayfinding signs, street/park furniture, public art, street trees and other possible public projects. Potential improvements will be identified and priorities for implementation will be defined. This project will NOT focus on privately owned buildings, structures or vacant lots.
Last April, community members and business owners alike volunteered their time and offered ideas and opinions on the location, scope, design concepts and alternatives for proposed projects. With the professional assistance of Massie Massie & Associates (MMA), comments received from past meetings have now been put into conceptual designs.
A public meeting will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on July 21, 2016 at the Kensington, 311 East Simmons Street, in the Grand Ballroom. The conceptual designs will be shown at this meeting.
Public input in encouraged and the comments and feedback will be taken into consideration in the development of the final project report.
