Emergency Management Presentation

June 2, 2016 04:48 PM
The Galesburg/Knox County Emergency Management Agency (KCEMA) will be hosting a presentation prior to Monday night’s Galesburg City Council meeting at 5:30 in the Emergency Operations Center of the Galesburg Public Safety Building. The purpose of the 45 minute presentation is threefold: to inform Council of the emergency management function, to educate council on the role they would play in an actual event, and to demonstrate the capabilities and interactions of emergency response agencies and organizations during a disaster.
The session will conclude with a mock scenario and "operational briefing" based on an F-4 tornado hitting Galesburg during the noon-hour. Representatives from various city departments and community response agencies will take part in the operational briefing that is set at two hours after the "Burgnado" strikes the city. KCEMA has held 35 Burgnado workshops over the last two years with a myriad of local response agencies, aimed at completing the objectives during the first day of the tornado. The public is invited and may enter through the lobby of the Public Safety Building.
The Galesburg/Knox County Emergency Management Agency is a cooperative venture between the City of Galesburg and Knox County to provide emergency management services to the area.
Questions may be directed to Knox County EMA Coordinator Tom Simkins at 309-345-3756 or by email at firechf@ci.galesburg.il.us.
