Since 1987, the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) has presented the Illinois Governor's Sustainability Award to organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through outstanding and innovative sustainability practices. This year five Galesburg area businesses were also nominated by the EBI Network. Among the nominees were Lamboo, Inc., Intellihot green technologies, Inc., CrossFire, LLC, the Sustainable Business Center (SBC), and Allen Environmental, Inc.
Sustainable technology encompasses any technique or technology that reduces the amount of and/or toxicity of pollutants that would have otherwise been released into the environment, and according to the SBC’s director Eric Dilts, "This year’s Galesburg nominees certainly fit that description." As an example Dilts went on  the explain how CrossFire not only cleans petroleum contaminated soil, but does so in a much cleaner manner than traditional soil decontamination methods. Dilts explained, "Crossfire’s CEO Tom Maleck has developed the technology that has shown documented results – fewer harmful emissions and less cost than competing technologies – that’s a great combination."
Gary Camarano, Global Strategies Director for the Entrepreneurs, Business and Industry Network (EBI Network) noted, "It’s great to see area companies being acknowledged for their business practices. We’ve seen companies being nominated for innovation, and now sustainability. I think this can do a lot to promote the Galesburg/West Central Illinois Region as a great place to do business."
Dilts added, "Not only are area companies being nominated, but they are also winning awards. Lamboo recently won Springfield’s Project Innovation Award. This makes a statement about the region’s ability to attract and grow innovative sustainable companies. I know a lot of companies in the area have been quietly embracing innovation and sustainability, and I think it’s about time they are acknowledged for it. "
Winners of the Governor’s Award for Sustainability will be announced in October. For additional information about the Illinois Governor’s Sustainability awards and the Sustainable Business Center contact Eric Dilts at 309/371-0472.
The EBI Network is a regional economic development collaboration lead by the City of Galesburg in partnership with 10 organizations serving the Galesburg/West Central Illinois Region.
