Galesburg Administrative Adjudication System to Begin Hearing Cases

March 21, 2016 10:16 AM
The City of Galesburg recently established an administrative adjudication system to address City ordinance violations in an efficient and cost effective manner. Under the new system, violation of the Galesburg City Code are adjudicated by an independent administrative hearing officer, as opposed to a judge in the Knox County Circuit Court.
The first administrative adjudication hearing date is set for March 22, 2016 and hearings will be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 9:00 at Galesburg City Hall.
"Creation of the administrative hearing process allows the City to expedite processing administrative tickets and City ordinance violations," said Galesburg City Attorney, Bradley Nolden. "In addition, the system benefits citizens, by significantly reducing the typical court costs associated with having their case heard in the traditional circuit court system."
Cases heard through the system are limited to infractions of the Galesburg City Code, and typical cases could include zoning code violations, vehicle impoundment hearings, and truancy tickets.
