Lake Storey Park

Lake Storey was constructed during the years of 1927 and 1929, by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.  The lake was erected so that locomotives would have soft water to run through them, as the City Reservoir was considered too harsh for the boilers and pistons.  The Lake was originally named "Santa Fe" but later renamed "Lake Storey" for W.B. Storey, President of the Railway.  In 1952 the Santa Fe Railway Company deeded the lake over to the City of Galesburg.

All Illinois State regulations apply, individuals fishing must have an Illinois Fishing License. Lake Storey is managed by the IDNR and stocked regularly with Channel Catfish, Walleye and Muskie. Fishing is excellent for these species as well as Large Mouth Bass and Crappie. Daily fish limits and length limits: Catfish (all species) 6 fish, no size limit; Bass 6 fish, 1 over 15 inches and 5 under 12 inches; Muskie, one fish 42 inch minimum length; Walleye 3 fish, 14 inch minimum length; Bluegill and/or red ear sunfish, 25 fish, no size limit; Crappie no daily or size limit. Please do not feed the wildlife. Feeding may be fun, but in kindness to the wildlife and consideration for the balance of nature it is not good. Breadcrumbs and popcorn are not good wildlife food. If you feed the birds and animals, they lose their food foraging instinct and the need to migrate.
Disc golf courses are located at Lake Storey Park and Kiwanis Park in Galesburg. Josh Fleming designed the Lake Storey course which is more challenging than Kiwanis Park's course.
