Information For Candidates
Mayor, City Clerk, Alderpersons in Wards 1, 3, 5, & 7, are elected every four (4) years. The next election will be held in 2027 for these offices.
Packets may be picked up at the Board of Election Commissioners Office beginning 90 days preceding the last day to file nomination papers.
Petitions are filed at the Board of Election Commissioners, 55 W. Tompkins St., Galesburg, IL, not more than 127 days nor less than 120 days prior to the date of the consolidated primary.
Petitions are filed not more than 141 days nor less than 134 days prior to the consolidated election.

Qualifications
No person shall be eligible to the office:
Unless he is a qualified elector of the municipality and has resided therein at least one year next preceding his election or appointment; or
Unless, in the case of alderperson, he resides within the ward for which he is elected; or
If he is in arrears in the payment of any tax or other indebtedness due to the city; or
If he has been convicted in Illinois state courts or in courts of the United States of malfeasance in office, bribery, or other infamous crime.
The Board of Election Commission is responsible for elections within the city limits of Galesburg.
