I-74 resurfacing begins April 27

April 22, 2020 08:28 AM
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that construction along Interstate 74 between the Main Street and U.S. 34 interchanges at Galesburg begins April 27.
The work involves pavement patching and resurfacing, upgrades to guardrails, drainage and lighting, and new pavement markings and will require a lane closure in each direction. Additionally, the same work is planned for the ramps at the U.S. 34 interchange (exits 46A and B) during weekends. The ramps will be closed between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday, and a detour will be posted. The entire project is expected to be complete by October.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
