Lyman Jensen Memorial Bridge Dedication

The Galesburg City Council approved a resolution naming the hiking and biking trail bridge over the spillway at Lake Storey the Lyman Jensen Memorial Bridge. On Tuesday August 11, 2015 at 4:15 PM a ceremony was held at the bridge to dedicate the bridge in his honor.
Lyman Jensen was a long time city employee, serving as Director of Public Works. Mr. Jensen served as the Acting City Manager for extended periods of time on three separate occasions. He was dedicated to his profession and the improvement of Galesburg. He served for a term as the chairman of the Illinois Municipal League Public Works Committee and was involved in other professional organizations. He was instrumental in developing and constructing many public improvements, including the Cabeen Hike and Bike Trail along the north side of Lake Storey Park. He received the Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award in 1999 and retired from the City in 2000. Mr. Jensen was a Rotarian and active in the community until his death in 2009.
"It is so appropriate that we are recognizing the contribution of Lyman Jensen to the City of Galesburg," said Roy Parkin, Director of Community Development. "Lyman served this city with foresight and tenacity. He was a public servant in every sense of the word, giving both his time and his many talents to build a better Galesburg."
Former employee of Mr. Jensen’s and current Director of Parks and Recreation, Larry Cox said, "Lyman was a wonderful boss, who cared about his employees, was fair and served with great integrity."
