The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Galesburg by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the City’s comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the year ended December 31, 2017. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

City Hall will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2019 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Handivan, bus, and solid waste pick-up will be in service as normally scheduled.

Citizens are reminded that an automatic parking prohibition will take effect on all city streets if snow accumulation reaches two inches. Cars parked on city streets at that time will be subject to ticketing and towing. The parking prohibition will remain in effect on all city streets until the street has been completely plowed. (The Central Business District is not included in this parking prohibition except for the NW corner of the public square).

The 2018 assessment notices were mailed and changes published in The Register-Mail on Friday, December 28, 2018. The deadline for a taxpayer to file a complaint to the Knox County Board of Review is Tuesday, January 29, 2019. The completed complaint form must be filed in one of the Assessor's offices no later than 4 P.M. If a taxpayer would like to file an appeal, he/she can get the appeal form and complaint procedures from the document section of the website or the Assessor's office.

Galesburg Transit passengers can now utilize Google Maps for trip planning. Through this new capability, users can look up directions on Google Maps, choose “transit”, and the corresponding bus line will be displayed.

Applications are still being accepted from Galesburg residents for the Help Eliminate Lead Program, as there is sufficient funding for ten more participants in the program. Through the grant, homes will be made lead safe at no expense to the homeowner. Homeowners that believe they may qualify for the program can contact Jeff Cozadd, Housing Programs Manager, Western Illinois Regional Council at 309-837-3941 to schedule an appointment.
