Nolden Named Corporation Counsel/City Attorney

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS – The City of Galesburg is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Bradley A. Nolden to the position of Corporation Counsel/City Attorney, effective November 2, 2015. He replaces Mr. John Hanlon, who retires October 31, 2015 after serving the City for 37 years.
A native of Joliet, Mr. Nolden earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa, and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri’s School of Law. He most recently was employed in private practice in Morris, Illinois, representing several municipal corporations throughout Grundy County. He has prior experience with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted traffic and misdemeanor violations.
Nolden was selected after a search committee consisting of Mayor John Pritchard, Alderman Jeremy Karlin, City Manager Todd Thompson, current Counsel John Hanlon, and Human Resources Manager David Jones reviewed and interviewed applicants.
The Corporation Counsel/City Attorney is appointed by the City Manager and is responsible for administration of the legal affairs of the City, represents the City in litigation and hearings, prepares or reviews all ordinances, contracts, and other legal instruments, prosecutes city traffic and ordinance violation cases, and renders legal advice and opinions to the City Council, City Manager and other departments.
