Recreation Policies

Photography Policy

Photos are periodically taken of participants during programs or at facilities. Please be aware that photos may be used in recreation brochures, website, pamphlets, flyers, or other media and publications. All patrons who participate in our programs have signed (or checked online) an agreement allowing the use of photos for marketing purposes.

Program Cancellation

If a cancellation occurs, you will be notified and your payment will be refunded in full (unless otherwise noted in the program details). Refunds will either be to the card that you paid with (if the system allows) or by check which can take 2-6 weeks after being submitted for processing.

Recreation Refund Policy

Once programs have started, schedules have been made, or supplies have been ordered no refunds will be issued. No refunds will be issued for dissatisfaction with a program.

Exceptions may be made by recreation staff members for extenuating circumstances - evidence of those circumstances may be required, for example a doctors note for a broken bone. Typically these circumstances are medical in nature and are unavoidable.

All trips and ticketed programs have a strict no refund policy unless a waitlisted person is able to take the place of the refund requestor.

Any requests to drop from a program and receive a refund or credit must be processed in writing (via an email to a minimum of five business days prior to the program starting. This length of time will be extended for any programs that require ordering of supplies, organizing/scheduling specific staff, or other expenditures as needed. If granted, refunds will be prorated for any time in the activity with a 10% administrative fee applied.

Refunds for a shelter or gazebo will be issued if the request is made at least 14 days in advance of the reservation date.

Volunteer Involvement

Volunteering is a great way to gain valuable job experience, personal satisfaction, and have fun while meeting new people. There are a variety of opportunities available throughout the year. The City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation Department will work with you and/or your group to develop an opportunity for volunteer involvement. Possible opportunities include: trail maintenance/development, youth sports coaching, scorekeeping for youth sports, park clean up days, Easter Egg Hunt, Touch A Truck, and more. Additional opportunities available on request. Please contact the recreation office for more details.

Note that all volunteers who work unsupervised with children will undergo background checks prior to being allowed to take their positions.

The City of Galesburg does not discriminate in the provision of programs, services, or activities on the basis of race, color creed, national origin, sex, age or disability. Nor does the City employ standards that would tend to screen out or limit the participation of individuals in any of the program activities or services sponsored by the City of Galesburg on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, age or disability.
