Public Viewing of Park Plaza Concepts

May 24, 2017 08:06 AM
Event:  Public Viewing of Park Plaza Concepts
Date:  Wednesday, May 24, 4-6 p.m.
Location:  Outdoors at the Park Plaza, 130 East Main Street
(Galesburg Civic Art Center, 114 E. Main Street, if weather is inclement)
The public is encouraged to attend a viewing of Design Concepts for Redevelopment of Park Plaza and Parking Lot E. Two concepts have been created to show how the area can be modified to accommodate a range of uses throughout the year. The public viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Park Plaza at 100 block E. Main Street or, if weather is inclement, the Galesburg Civic Art Center at 114 E. Main Street.
The plaza is located south of Main Street, between Cherry and Prairie streets. Redevelopment of the plaza and parking area was identified as a priority project in the Downtown Design Development Plan approved by the Galesburg City Council in 2016. The plaza was constructed in the 1970s and currently needs major repairs.
City staff and design consultants will be on hand to discuss the plans. They welcome all ideas and comments about how the area might better serve both downtown businesses and the public as a venue for special activities.
The anticipated schedule of the project is to have final plans completed in August. The project will be bid and construction is to be completed next spring, so the redeveloped plaza can be in use starting in the summer of 2018.
