Results of Extra Traffic Enforcement by Galesburg Police Department

The Galesburg Police Department worked extra traffic enforcement activities during the month of November, including the Thanksgiving holiday.  Funds for this activity were provided through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The goal of these enforcement activities is to reduce the number of injuries and deaths on the roadway as a result of vehicle crashes. The four main causes of injuries and deaths on the roadway are: 
  • Speeding
  • Impaired driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Occupant restraint (seat belt and car seats)
As a result of these enforcement activities, the Galesburg Police issued the following citations:
  • 76 speeding
  • 23 distracted driving
  • 13 seat belt
  • 14 uninsured motorist
  • 5 DUI arrests
  • 1 Felony arrest
  • 3 fugitives apprehended
  • 6 driving while suspended arrests
  • 2 reckless driving
  • 8 drug arrests
  • 1 stolen vehicle recovered
  • 28 other citations
