BUS OPERATING HOURS

Monday through Saturday
7:00 a.m - 6:15 p.m

 

The City of Galesburg contracts with Galesburg Transit I Corporation, a not-for-profit organization, to operate four fixed bus routes within Galesburg City limits:

  • Gold route operates 30 minute looped routes leaving the Downtown Transferpoint (Main St. and Prairie Street) at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour. The first bus leaves at 7:15 a.m. and the last buses leave at 5:45 p.m.
  • Blue, Green, and Red routes operates 1 hour looped routes leaving the Downtown Transfer point (Main St. and Prairie Street) on the hour. The first buses leave at 7:00 a.m. and the last buses leave at 5:00 p.m.

TRIP PLANNING

To access the trip planning feature through Google Maps, navigate to https://www.google.com/maps, enter the beginning location and destination, then select the transit icon (front facing train). This will populate the route choices for the trip.
 

CURRENT FARES

  • Regular Riders (Full Fare) $0.60
  • Student Riders (with ID) $0.40
  • Disabled Riders (with Blue Card) $0.40
  • Age 65+ (with ID) Free
  • Children under 46 inches tall (with paying adult) FREE
  • Current Carl Sandburg College Students, Faculty & Staff (with ID)  Free

DISABILITY REDUCED FARE CARD

Individuals considering disabled certification, a physician's verification is required to prove eligibility. A disabled individual is a person with a disability having a permanent or temporary physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one of the major life functions of such individual. Applications and more information are available at the Galesburg Transit Maintenance Facility, 1025 Monmouth Blvd.
 

DISABILITY RIDE FREE BUS PASS

Those wishing to utilize the Disabilities Ride Free Bus Pass must be registered with the Illinois Department of Aging Benefit Access Program. Once approved the individual would have to bring the certificate and photo ID to the Galesburg Transit Maintenance Facility, 1025 Monmouth Blvd. Anyone needing more information or assistance with entrolling may contact VNA, 2262 Grand Ave, or Galesburg Transit Maintenance Facility, 1025 Monmouth Blvd.
 

AGE 65+

Seniors wishing to take advantage of the Seniors Ride Free Program just need to show a photo ID when getting on the bus or to the office.
 

SUMMER FLASH PASS

Available to students through High School. The cost is $10, and the price is discounted $.50 for every "A" received on their last report card of the year and must be provided at time of purchase. Passes are available Memorial Day to Labor Day and can be purchased directly from the drivers or the Galesburg Transit Maintenance Facility, 1025 Monmouth Blvd.
 

PUNCH TICKETS

All punch tickets are available for purchase from the drivers or the Galesburg Transit Maintenance Facility. 
  • Regular riders — 10 punches for $5
  • Student Rider (with ID) — 16 punches for $5
  • Disabled Rider (with Blue Card) — 16 punches for $5

MONTHLY CITIPASS

$20 for unlimited rides for the month printed on the pass (colors change). Available for purchase from the drivers or the Galesburg Maintenance Facility.
  

SATURDAY PASSES

  • Regular Riders $1.20
  • Student Riders (with ID) $0.80
  • Disabled Rider (with Blue Card) $0.80
  • Saturday passes are good for unlimited rides on all Galesburg Transit buses for the date that appears on the front of the pass.

  • Kimberly Terrace — Route #1 (Blue)
  • Songetaha Road — Route #1 (Blue) and #2 (Green)
  • Swings Mobile Home Park — Route #3 (Red)
  • N. Lake Storey Road — #3 (Red)
  • Planet Fitness - #2 (Green)
  • Prairieland - #2 (Green)
  • Carl Sandburg College (Fri/Sat and when there are no scheduled classes - #3 (Red)
  • Knox College (When there are no scheduled classes) - #4 (Gold)
  • Passengers in Dial-A-Ride service areas must call the Galesburg Transit Office, 309/342-4242, on the hour (:00) to schedule a pick up.

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • Closes at 3:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve & New Year's Eve

HELPFUL RIDING TIPS

  1. When calling for information, know the nearest intersection to the location where you would be getting on.
  2. Be at the bus stop 5 minutes before the bus is scheduled to be there.
  3. Wait for the bus at the corner of any intersection, bus bench, or bus shelter. Drivers will not stop in the middle of the block.
  4.  Flag the bus as it approaches to let the driver know you want the bus.
  5. Have your cash fare or pass ready before boarding the bus. Note: Drivers are not required to make change for bills larger than $5.00
  6. If a transfer is needed, please ask for it at the time of boarding the bus.
  7. Give the driver advance notice when you want to get off by pulling the "stop request" cord at least one-half block prior to your stop
  8. Please use only one seat when the bus is full. Keep the aisles free for safety and do not block the exit doors.
  9. Please observe the priority seating section for elderly and disabled persons.

RULES OF CONDUCT

  1. Eating, drinking, and smoking/vaping are not allowed on buses.
  2. No littering on buses or the bus stop locations.
  3. Do not be disruptive to the driver and other passengers.
  4. Do not use loud or explicit language when riding the buses.
  5. Wear proper attire. If you are not wearing shoes or a shirt, you will not be provided service.
  6. Firearms and explosives are strictly prohibited on all transit properties and vehicles. As well as any containers that are being used or have been used for gasoline.
  7. Only Service Animals are allowed on the buses.
