Galesburg, IL (December 3, 2o2o) The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 990 McClure Street on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at 5:30 pm. The response included all three stations and 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, the residents had already evacuated the home, and smoke was showing from the attic vents. 

Battalion Chief Donald Brackett assumed command and the Central Station crew made entry and extinguished the fire in the attic. While in the attic attacking the fire, a firefighter fell through the ceiling onto stairs going into the basement. He was transported by Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service to OSF Hospital and was treated and released.

An emergency callback was initiated of the preceding shift to provide emergency coverage for the city. The fire damage was contained to the attic and is estimated to be approximately $5,000. Galesburg Fire Department Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.
