Water lines being flushed in community

July 19, 2013 09:35 AM
Due to a change in piping at the West Main Street water plant, residents may experience cloudy or rusty water. Water production staff confirms consumption of this water presents no danger to public health.
The discoloration of the water will vary from mild rust color to some areas with dark rust or brown color. Staff has been flushing lines to clear the discolored water from the system. Discolored water will appear throughout the community in no particular pattern and will clear up depending on the water flows in particular areas. Areas nearest the plant on W. Main Street will clear first followed by other higher water flow areas such as Main Street, west to east; and Henderson Street,  south to north. Some other areas of our system will clear out much slower because the water flows in those areas are lower and it takes more time for the water to change over. It is anticipated that within 24 hours the water will be clear for the entire community.
You can direct questions regarding your water and its safety to the Public Works Department at 309/345-3623.
